Game Diary: Avs Outplayed in Seattle, Still Win 4-1
Georgiev and fourth line shine in road victory.
Game 3
Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken
Climate Pledge Arena - Seattle, Washington
PRE-GAME
Alexandar Georgiev gets the start in net for the third time in this three-game roadtrip to start the season.
I fully expect ESPN to mention no less than 30 times in this game that the Kraken defeated the Avalanche in the postseason last year. That might be low.
You’ll probably also hear a healthy dose of the Val Nichushkin Seattle hotel storyline in addition to the reminder that Cale Makar had a questionable hit and suspension in last spring’s series.
How many times will they mention that Jordan Eberle’s dirty hit went unpunished by the Department of Player Safety?
Mikko Rantanen is good. There’s nothing else to that analysis, he’s just been very good this year with four points in the opener and then the shootout winner in San Jose.
The top line has been solid thus far, too. It’ll be interesting to see what happens late in the game if the score is close or the Avs are behind. Jared Bednar shorted the bench against the Sharks and Jonathan Drouin was one of the guys who saw ice time diminish as the clock wore down.
The penalty kill was brutal to start 2022-23… it’s been world’s better in the first two games this season, including that kill in OT in the Bay Area.
The Kraken feature a healthy dose of former Avs as Andre Burakovsky, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Philipp Grubauer all call the Emerald City home now.
Seattle’s colors and jerseys and logo are all incredible. Really makes you realize how great they did with the initial branding. It also makes you realize how terrible Vegas’ look/brand is.
