What The Avs Know They Will Have To Give Cale Makar On His Next Contract
I spent some of this weekend on my new iPhone 15 (not a 17, the latest, but a nice upgrade from the 13 I had for years and which sank to low power in about an hour all the time), and surveyed some hockey agents, and maybe a front office person or two in the NHL.
The question: what will Cale Makar’s cap hit number be when he signs his next contract, which can happen any time after next July 1, if he were to sign an extension with the Avalanche. After July 1 of next year, Makar will officially have one year left on his current five-year, $45 million deal, which means the Avs can start negotiations on an extension.
I probably would have been shocked by their collective estimation a year or two ago. But, not anymore.
