For those who use the ESPN app and have updates set for the Avalanche, boy are you going to be surprised when you see the real final score. Despite what the “Worldwide Leader” sent out last night afterward, it was, in fact the Colorado Avalanche who won the game with the Buffalo Sabres, 6-5, in overtime.
When I came down stairs this morning to help my son get ready for the bus, I asked if he wanted me to tell him the score since he was in bed long before puckdrop.
“I already know, Daddy. They won 6-5 in overtime!”
He had asked one of our Google devices when he woke up...
“Google can tell you the final score, bud, but it does not tell you the whole story.”
There are a few games each season that get remembered. Games that standout in a sea of 82 contests that can all seem to run together despite 31 varying opponents from night-to-night. In 2024-25, the Buffalo Sabres stand out, though. The Maple Leafs game during the Stanley Cup season (also a Devon Toews OT winner), the Maple Leafs and Penguins comeback last season, and now BOTH Buffalo games this year.
