Thoughts On Last Night's Preseason Game And Necas Contract Scuttlebut
About Burns...
It was a nice little live chat we had with some of the DOA subscribers. Everybody is always encouraged to join in. You should get some kind of notification when I start them, which is just before every game, home and road. The number of comments sometimes exceeds 1,000, so everybody gets their takes in on the game and team.
Some thoughts I had in watching last night’s 2-1 Avs win over Dallas, which was televised on ESPN+, plus some informed thoughts on the Martin Necas contract situation toward the end:
So far, so good for Brent Burns. He played 21 minutes, 21 seconds last night, finishing plus-1 with an assist, two shots on net and three hits. I liked the signing when it happened, and like it even more now. No, he’s not super fast out there, at age 40, but his hockey IQ is still off the charts. You need guys like that to win. He’ll be real good in tight games, when things like chipping pucks out of the zone and sealing guys off on the wall and behind the net will be crucial. And, he still has a very hard shot.
