Five wins, zero losses. Has any NHL team ever gone 82-0-0? (That’s been a frequent inside joke between me and Terry Frei over the years).
Right now, there’s just no stopping the Colorado Avalanche. On a night the Avs had some rough moments, they just wiped them quickly away with quick bursts of all-around A-List talent, starting with Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen. Final score: Avalanche 6, Hurricanes 4.
Oh yeah, and the depth guys were excellent too. Logan O’Connor scored a short-handed goal for the THIRD straight game, tying the franchise record of Joe Sakic. Fredrik Olofsson scored a huge goal too.
Carolina’s goalie, Pyotr Kochetkov, was brutally awful too and that obviously helped the cause. Death, taxes and goalie problems for the Hurricanes. They’re a very good team otherwise, but there’s no chance they’ll win a Stanley Cup - as some oddsmakers think - with that goaltending.
