Seventy percent.
The Colorado Avalanche have have won 70% of their games so far this season. And that’s not enough.
After a 6-0 start, Colorado have floundered in three-of-its-last-four-games. Three losses — all road shutouts by a combined 15-0 score — have rattled the fanbase early on. Every season is littered with ups and downs, peaks and valleys. It just seems so stark to have such a high met with such an immediate low.
After setting the NHL record for most consecutive regular-season road wins, the Avs have been throttled in three straight away from Ball Arena, all with their No. 1 netminder between the pipes. Alexandar Georgiev gave up four to both Pittsburgh and Buffalo before the Golden Knights put up seven on the team’s top goalie. In between, backup and newly acquired Ivan Prosvetov put together a great outing in his first start, winning at home against the Blues with 27 saves to his credit.
There is no goaltending controversy, though. Like the team, Georgiev is having his peaks and valleys. Kicking off the season 6-0-0 and being named the second star of the month was truly a remarkable start. Since then, he’s hit a very low valley. His goals-against average is approaching 3.00 (2.92) and his save percentage has dropped below .900 (.899), far cries from his early-season numbers.
All that being said, Colorado has been strong at home in its three contests, boasting a 3-0-0 mark and averaging 4.67 goals per game a mile high.
