Analysis: Sloppy and Disjointed Avs Bested by Kings

MacKinnon continues home scoring, but Avalanche look disjointed in 5-2 loss.

For everything the Avalanche did right against a bad team on Tuesday, they seemingly did everything wrong against a good team on Thursday.

A disjointed Colorado team is not one we see often, but it was the one we saw at Ball Arena against a very good LA Kings team in a 5-2 loss.

What was more striking than the sloppy play from the home team throughout the game was the fact that the Kings seemed to be a step ahead of the Avs all night. That’s not something that fans are used to seeing from this group that has been built around speed and skill.

This isn’t a sky-is-falling kind of game, but it certainly is a wake-up call. The Kings are a good team. A very good team. Their rebuild is way ahead of even where the team management probably hoped it would be at this point. That doesn’t take away from the sting of this performance, but it should put things into some perspective that the Western Conference has good teams that are flying under the radar right now.
