He signs with Peter Forsberg's old team in Sweden

Something of a minor shocker today, with news that Sampo Ranta - who came to the Avalanche out of the University of Minnesota with some real promise/hype - signed a two-year contract with MoDo of the Swedish Hockey League.

Yes, that MoDo, where Peter Forsberg played and later became their general manager. After a few years of being relegated to the second division, MoDo reclaimed a spot in the first division this year.
