Salvas: Why I DO Like The Georgiev-Blackwood Deal

I do like this deal.

Is Mackenzie Blackwood an upgrade in net over Alexandar Georgiev? Yes.

That’s the end of story for me. Did we get better in goal? Yes. Okay. Then it’s a fine deal for me.

But there is more to it that I like. 

I like the timing of this move. Had the Avalanche waited longer into the season to address the goaltending issue, the price for making a deal like this or another would have been higher. A first-round pick probably would have had to go the other way were MacFarland and Sakic to wait until February or March to make a move like this.
