Salvas: To Me, Beating the Bruins is Special... and Necessary

Living in Bruins country, I needed that win last night.

For many of you reading this, last night’s win against the visiting Bruins was no more special than any other of the team’s regular-season victories. There is probably a caveat that beating another of the league’s best teams might make it more special than, say, defeating the Ducks.

However, the Avalanche beating the Bruins is, for me, one of the best wins of the season.

I don’t have disdain for the Bruins like I do for a certain red, white and blue team that has only won one Stanley Cup in the last eight-plus decades but acts like they’re the NHL’s brightest star. No. In fact, there are nights where I actually find myself watching and liking the B’s.

But when you are an avid Avalanche fan like myself and you live deep in Bruins country (New Hampshire) subjected to the verbal bombardment of a much better and knowledgeable fanbase (their opinion, not mine), a win against the local hockey team is special.
