Ross Colton Back as Avs Tangle with Wings Tonight
A once-great rivalry is just a Saturday game in 2024.
An up-and-down week started with an insane, all-time comeback win in Buffalo. Down 4-0, the Avalanche were able to come back and win in regulation.
A season-defining win for sure. But could it catapult the Avalanche to bigger and better things?
Well… not in the immediate future as Colorado stumbled two nights later in Carolina, 5-3.
A terrible second period put the Avs behind the eight ball, playing catch up in the third. And they nearly did catch up as a pair of late Valeri Nichushkin markers made it a one-goal game twice. Unfortunately after the first goal from Big Val, Colorado took a too-many-men penalty that led to a Martin Necas power-play tally and a 4-2 lead. Val struck again to make it a one-goal game once more only to see Carolina hit the empty net for the win.
Maybe the magic of this road trip is based around the Great Lakes! Yeah, maybe whatever good vibes the Avs had in Buffalo just got in a boat, went from Lake Ontario, down Niagara Falls, across Lake Erie, up the Detroit River and docked and moved up Woodward Avenue to Little Caesars Arena… That has to be it! (by the way… only had to use Google Maps for the street name. NBD.)
