In the wake of Scott Wedgewood’s injury against Buffalo, there seemed to be a good deal of pessimism about yet another injury. That after finally “solving” the goalie issue, the team was once again dealt a setback.
Well, the ensuing rambling is meant to remind you of one thing… enjoy this.
Enjoy this Avalanche team, this group of players and front-office staff who have given fans the opportunity to follow this team at this point. If the first six to seven years in Denver was the first incarnation of the Avalanche, we all know how quickly that group and their success can end and how disappointing and middling the second incarnation was.
The middle decade of the franchise’s time in Colorado is the forgotten period, marred by mediocre efforts and forgettable players, but also solid draft choices. Mix in one unbelievable overachieving season with a volatile, but legendary player-turned-coach and you can point to a solitary bright spot in an otherwise forgettable period of time.
