In the era when the Montreal Canadiens dominated the NHL, they had a saying that was the height of arrogance. After winning another Stanley Cup, the mayor and other pooh-bahs of the city would say the victory parade would encompass “the usual route.”

We’ve had three of them in Denver with the Colorado Avalanche, and I say plan for the “usual route” again Mayor Johnston! See you at Civic Center Park.

The Avs no longer have a big, fat zero in the win column, not after last night’s convincing 4-3 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks. OK, so maybe we’re only still convinced that the Avs are a very shaky club at the moment still.

The Avs had just killed off a late tripping penalty by Cale Makar, but couldn’t fend off the Ducks’ Troy Terry, as the former DU kid scored with 12 seconds left to send the game to OT.

Nathan MacKinnon, on a patented, left-side, dangling rush to the middle, scored the winner in OT and so now the Avs sport a shiny new record of 1-4.
