Perfection and Heartbreak: The Story of the Nordiques Jersey Release
Nordiques vs. Whalers on Thursday.
This story comes in two parts. Each has a very different emotional tone. And yet, both are about one thing.
Part 1: Perfection
The Colorado Avalanche finally unveiled their Quebec Nordiques throwback uniforms — the long-rumored, long-teased, long-awaited jerseys set to be worn during several games this season.
After an infuriating marketing rollout that teased the uniform and fans on social media for more than a week, it was finally unveiled Tuesday morning. And here’s the kicker: all the social posts from this morning were awesome. The Sakic reverse-time transition into Gabe Landeskog? Perfection. Every other post hit, too. Even the two features on the team’s website nailed it with complementary storytelling and tone.
Not to be overlooked are the jerseys themselves. They’re perfect. My concerns about the collar are moot as the much wider white around the neck is not as noticeable as I had previously assumed it would be.
And the jerseys themselves? Perfect. My concern about the collar — gone. The wider white band around the neck is far less noticeable than I feared. Since that’s the only difference from the set the Nordiques wore before the move to Denver, there are no notes. None. The Quebec Nordiques uniforms are one of the most perfect designs in sports history.
10/10. No notes.
