The Colorado Avalanche defensive effort was not good enough in Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the visiting Edmonton Oilers in front of a national audience.

Brent Burns and Josh Manson made several mistakes that created defensive-zone lapses in coverage and eventually led to a pair of Oilers goals. Devon Toews has not looked like himself lately either. Lacking his usual stellar play, he has been wandering the ice as of late, looking lost and allowing pucks to get by him.

Mackenzie Blackwood didn’t help the cause last night, either. He was beaten from the low slot on all four goals, dropping early and giving Edmonton’s talented shooters open looks at the top of the net.

Ok, now that we’ve gotten the honest self-reflection about Colorado’s mistakes and responsibility for the defeat on home ice out of the way…

What the actual hell (I wanted to use another word) was that?

Kelly Sutherland might hate the Colorado Avalanche as much as the TNT broadcasters do. And when those two things come together on the same night, it becomes a whirlwind of the screws being put to the boys in burgundy and blue.
