Notebook: Random Thoughts Heading into Final Week of Regular Season
Jets, Golden Knights, Mikko and Landeskog are on my mind!
This is a test of my speed and writing skills. I am in the waiting room of my son’s karate class. I am going to try to briefly write some of my thoughts in 45 minutes or less before he bounds down the stairs asking to go home and eat pizza (a Friday night tradition since the start of ‘Rona).
Let’s start with the most obvious thing that faces this team in the immediate future: a back-to-back weekend against two of our conference rivals.
Saturday is a huge test against a team who we will most definitely face in the first round of the playoffs as the Winnipeg Jets come to Denver. This is a massive game as both teams boast identical 49-24-6 records and 104 points. Winnipeg owns all the tie breakers, so Colorado needs the two points in a bad way. Getting those two points in regulation and holding the Jets to none would be even better.
This has playoff vibes because it basically is a playoff game. And then in a week and a half it will probably be a playoff game, barring any major meltdown from Dallas.
This weekend, the Avalanche need to be the team we saw against the Wild and not against Dallas or Edmonton.
