Never Say Die! Avs Stun Canucks With Comeback Road Win
Down 3-0, Colorado battles back to beat conference-leading Canucks in OT.
Legendary Michigan football head coach Bo Schembechler instilled a motto into the program that remains a staple even today: “Those Who Stay Will Be Champions.”
I’d like to slightly alter that expression a bit and make it work with Wednesday night’s Avalanche/Canucks game in Vancouver: “Those who stayed up to watch the whole thing will be rewarded.” (Please attribute that to me.)
And that’s just what happened in Colorado’s 4-3 overtime win in Vancouver.
I wouldn’t blame anyone who went to bed after the first period. Hell, I probably wouldn’t have blamed anyone who went to bed after the first media timeout.
The Canucks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 24 seconds into the game thanks to a J.T. Miller redirect. The lead grew to a pair just 140 seconds later as Ilya Mikheyev tapped in a centering feed at the top of the paint on the home team’s second shot of the game. Two shots, two goals. You know it’s not a good thing when you find yourself down 2-0 and the broadcast is still cycling through the lineup graphics at the top of the screen.
