Finally.
Finally the rest of the league now knows what we have all known for a decade: Nathan MacKinnon is the best.
That was confirmed Wednesday night in Las Vegas at the cringy 2024 NHL Awards.
MacKinnon was named the recipient of both the Ted Lindsay and Hart Memorial Trophy, respectively. The Lindsay is given to the MVP of the league based on the votes of the players, while the Hart — the trophy historically recognized as the true MVP — is voted on by the league’s writers.
So the players and the media both agreed that Nathan MacKinnon was the best player in the league, judged to be the most valuable player to his team in 2023-24. That’s pretty good, right?
And it wasn’t even that close. Nate took 137 of the 194 first-place votes and 1,740 total voting points, tabbed either first or second on 184 of the 194 ballots submitted. Which means that there are 10 really dumb writers allowed to cast votes.
