My Avs' Top-10 Moments of 2022
A lot of great things happened this year, but here are 10 that stood out to me...
(Dater/editor’s note: Please give a warm welcome back to Pat Salvas, who will be a regular contributor to Dater On Hockey. Pat is a tremendous writer who, while he lives in New Hampshire, watches every Avalanche game with a passion matched by few. Photos by Pat in this piece).
Strap in and get ready, because what you’re about to read (or skim if we’re being honest with ourselves) is one of those year-in-review cliche articles. There’s something to be said about new, original ideas, but there’s also something to be said for just going with what works.
And it’s not like I’m doing a year-end recap for 2017, which I don't think I could get 10 highlights from. This was 2022… the best year for Avalanche fans in the last two decades. This should be easy and enjoyable.
However, I also understand that this is my list and all of you won’t agree with me completely. Some of you will probably have four or five different choices than me… and that’s fine. This was such a great year that we had so many options to choose from.
Don’t yell at me for what I missed. Just write a comment telling me how dumb I am to have missed it!
10. The Parade
The culmination of the 2021-22 season. Only one team gets to have a parade (although, I’m sure some Tennessee-based teams would do one every season if they could based on their banner etiquette), so this is a special event that doesn't happen too often. For me, I had to include it because I was there and it was my connection to the championship. To be in Denver for the celebration was an awesome moment. Like I said in my piece that week, when you live in the city/region of your favorite team, there is a communal sense of celebration. Being there, I finally got to experience that with all of you lucky enough to live there.
