It wasn’t the best game, but it had the best outcome.

In defeating Winnipeg, 3-2, on Friday night, Colorado looked… fine. It certainly wasn’t their best game of the season, but not all games can be 9-1 wins like that night in Edmonton.

The Avalanche jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and mostly hung on from there, earning a one-goal divisional victory against the reeling Jets.

Colorado is in the midst of a season that could potentially be historic. Games like this prove they’re capable of winning in multiple ways — by blowout or by the skin of their teeth. They can win games with Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, or with Josh Manson and Parker Kelly. They can win regardless of how the game is played, whether it’s skilled or heavy.

At the end of the day, when the final horn blows, winning is all that matters to this team.
