Makar, MacKinnon and Mikko Down the Wings in Denver
In a chaos-filled day, Avs' stars provided consistency.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen are good at hockey. Like, really good at hockey.
Oh, so you have heard that before? Okay, good. I thought so.
Well, that was on display Wednesday night at Ball Arena in the Avalanche’s 7-2 victory against the visiting Red Wings.
MacKinnon pushed his home point streak to an absurd 31 games with a goal and three assists. Mikko put up four primary assists. And Cale Makar? He just scored his first career hat trick while also adding an assist of his own to give Colorado a trio of four-point performers against their once formidable rivals. It was the first time since 1997 that three Avs players had four-point showings in the same game.
On a day that was chaotic with multiple roster moves, this result was the perfect ending.
It’s hard to summarize what happened between the boards in 60 minutes of play without first examining the effects of the day that led up to it.
