Makar & Georgiev Voted into ASG, Avs Play Toronto on HNIC
Big Val snubbed, Georgiev's ASG inclusion and Salvas used two acronyms in headline!
Ok, let’s make this quick because the game starts in just over an hour and a half and I still have four new episodes of Bluey to catch up before the pregame show.
Breaking news today was that Cale Makar (no shocker) and Alexandar Georgiev (HUGE shocker) were named All-Stars after the first round of fan voting was announced. They will return to Toronto again the first weekend of February to take part in the weekend festivities, joining Nathan MacKinnon and giving the Avalanche three players, the only team to have the distinction at this point.
MacKinnon is arguably the best player in the league right now and the front runner for the Hart. His place at the game is deserved. Makar — when healthy — is the best defenseman in the world and it’s not particularly close, according to MacKinnon. He’s probably second in Norris voting if it happened today, but with enough runway this season could jump Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes and take the honor with a second-half push.
Yes, Georgiev leads the league in wins (23). Yes, he is tied for fourth in shutouts (2) and yes, he has faced the second-most shots (948) of any goaltender this season. That’s all great!
