Let’s get something out of the way right away: there is no better hockey player in the world RIGHT NOW than Nathan MacKinnon.

His game-winning overtime power-play goal didn’t prove that… it cemented it.

The NHL’s First Star for December didn’t waste any time in making a case to claim the award again in January with a three-point performance including the winner on his patented power-play one-timer in the first game of the New Year.

But if all the praise heaped on the Avalanche for such a great 60-minute performance is warranted (it was), then why did MacKinnon’s goal come at 32 seconds of overtime instead of regulation in a dominating victory?

Alexandar Georgiev.
