After an MVP performance in the 4 Nations, it took the Avs and Nathan MacKinnon a few days to come back down to Earth after a two-week break with a pair of road losses.
But they finally emerged from hibernation on Wednesday night. And emerged in a big way.
Four third-period goals, including a pair from MacKinnon, and the Avalanche had a 5-1 win against the Devils in their back pocket.
The start of a six-game homestand in the late-stages of the season can be huge for any team. But getting off on the right foot seemed extra important for Colorado last night with New Jersey in town. The Avalanche need to pick up as many of the possible 12 points as they can during the homestand in this push to the postseason. It’s not just about getting the points, though, it’s also about getting them in ways that you can build on and carry over to the next one.
