It's Happening... Landy is Back!
The ultimate comeback story is one step closer to an NHL reality.
Let’s be honest. Friday night was probably the first time many of you watched a Colorado Eagles game from start to finish. Whether on YouTube or in the rink.
Hand up. That’s me.
I check in on them from time to time when the Avalanche have a prospect playing down there. Even then, though, the players I’m interested in usually don’t spend a ton of time in Loveland. And the guys we get from the Eags during the course of the season usually slot into the bottom six—not exactly the centerpiece of the lineup in Denver.
But on Friday night, I was glued to the TV as I streamed the Colorado Eagles/Henderson Silver Knights game. It was the most excited I had been to spend a Friday night with AHL hockey since my internship with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2007.
And why? Because the Captain is back. Gabe Landeskog played in his first competitive pro hockey game in 1,020 days. From hoisting the Stanley Cup in Tampa to packing Blue Arena in a late-season AHL game… it certainly was a wild, emotional journey.
