If Avs Are To Get New 2C, It Won't Be O'Reilly And Won't Be Toews
Also, what I'm hearing on Landeskog - and how he could help solve 2C issue
Bo Horvat is off the table. Ryan O’Reilly is off the table. And, based on talks with multiple sources, Jonathan Toews won’t be on the table either.
If the Avalanche ever wanted any of those players in trade to fill a hole at the second-line center position, it won’t happen. Horvat was traded by Vancouver to the New York Islanders a couple weeks ago, and the former Av O’Reilly was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Blues last night.
As I wrote the other day, I never liked the odds that ROR would come back to the Avs this season in trade. Why would the Blues want to help out their division rival with a deal that might give them another Stanley Cup?
I believe that the Avs wanted the veteran Toews from the Blackhawks. The price would have been cheaper, and I think they could have figured things out cap-wise - especially if a guy like Erik Johnson goes on LTIR.
