Huge Second Period Lifts Avs in Return-to-Action Win
Colorado hands Utah 4-2 Loss in SLC
If you were expecting the Avalanche to come out flying against Utah after three weeks off for the Olympics, you’re a better fan than I.
It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t crisp. But it was two points.
A combined six-goal second period did all the heavy lifting in Colorado’s 4-2 win, and while this one won’t live long in the memory, it will go down as the night the Olympic-heavy Avs returned from Italy and handled their business.
Maybe we’ll remember it as the unofficial beginning of the Brett Kulak era. (is that what we’re calling it?)
Kulak logged more than 18 minutes in his Avalanche debut and, notably, was on the ice late while Utah pressed with the extra attacker. That’s a defensive vote of confidence that Sam Girard rarely received in similar situations from Jared Bednar and company. For a first night in burgundy and blue, it was a steady, mistake-free effort.
We’ll definitely remember Parker Kelly’s goal.
