An Avs-Mammoth game coming up here soon, so why not spend some time here going over the year that is almost over and a look ahead.

The Avs are the talk of the hockey world, of course, coming into tonight with points in 33 of their first 35 games. I mean, it’s starting to get a little spooky. I have quite the jinxing powers, so I’m not going to make ANY predictions of how this season will turn out. As former Avs GM Pierre Lacroix used to always say, “The flower pot can always turn over any minute.”

But seriously, I’m starting to think that this might be the first Avs team in history not to do something at the NHL trade deadline. Why would you change anything at this point? A bigger forward, maybe with some grit and sandpaper?

Have we forgotten that Logan O’Connor should come back at some point (don’t know how soon yet)? He would fill that kind of need nicely.

Do the Avs need top-six help? No. Depth forward help? Doesn’t seem like it. A good PK guy? They’re right at the top of the league. The power play hasn’t always produced, but it’s getting better and who would you take off that first unit? Any help in goal? No. Depth on D? Doesn’t seem to be there to me either.

We all know things can go bad. Injuries are often the thing that kills a great team suddenly. And, this team has had a lot of bad luck with health at key times in the past. So, no getting over our raisin’, as the saying goes.

So, this team has been something to be very thankful for now and over the season. Here are some other things I’m personally thankful for:
