Game Analysis: Avs Dominate In Third And OT
Arizona held without a shot for 24 minutes, but Avs need OT to secure second point
For the longest time during this game, I struggled with what the lede would be. That’s nothing new because it usually happens in every game for me.
Tonight, I was originally going to go with, “Well… that game happened.”
But after overtime, I’ve decided to submit to you — the readers — tonight’s lede: “Cale Friggin’ Makar!”
The best defenseman in the world’s overtime game-winner through two Arizona Coyotes players and then netminder Connor Ingram was a thing of beauty. More importantly, it gave the Colorado Avalanche the extra point and a 3-2 win.
That game was… weird, right?
Colorado dominated, not allowing the visiting Yotes a shot on goal over the final 23:58 of play. According to the official play-by-play on the league’s website, Arizona’s last shot on goal was by Clayton Keller with two minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the second period.
That is insane. And yet, the only goal Colorado managed in that time was the Makar winner.
The Avs haven’t had the killer instinct in a while this season. They’ve shown glimpses of it recently. The Sharks game for instance. But this should’ve been a similar outcome and it wasn’t, which had my finger hovering over a certain metaphorical button that will not be named tonight and has been put away… for now.
