Game Analysis: A Great Night For Lehkonen - Until He Breaks A Finger
Another injury to a key player ruins a dominant night for Avs
The Nashville Predators would probably hang a banner for winning their 1,100th game in franchise history. But for the defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche, it was just a ho-hum 8-4 win on a Monday night in Montreal.
A four-goal first period and the four goals after that propelled the Avs up one spot from fourth in the Central with a four-goal win to kick off the four-game road swing.
The story of the night was the play of Artturi Lehkonen in his return to Montreal after being dealt at last season’s deadline. In his first game back at the Bell Centre, Lekky was credited with a pair of first-period scores thanks to his solid positioning in front of the net that led to a pair of redirects, bringing his season total to a career-best 20.
It didn’t end the way the Finnish forward would have liked, though, as he left the ice midway through the game with an apparent hand injury.
Our worst fears were confirmed after the game as head coach Jared Bednard told the media that it was a broken finger. It seems that Lekky will return to Denver for surgery and be out for a month.
Darn it all to heck! (Sorry for the language.)
