Early Thoughts On Avs-Kraken, And Looking Back On An Amazing Last Few Weeks
Why I think Avs will sweep Seattle
First off, Jared Bednar damn well better be a finalist for the Jack Adams Award for NHL coach of the year. He’s not going to win it - that’ll go to Jim Montgomery for leading Boston to a record-breaking regular season, and I have no issue with that. But Bednar did one hell of a job this year, given all he had to deal with as far as injuries and other drama.
What an accomplishment, really, in winning the Central Division. The Avs have had nearly 600 man-games lost to injury, yet they won the division in classic tortoise-and-hare fashion. They just wouldn’t be defeated by it all. Now, they have home-ice advantage guaranteed for at least the first two rounds of the Western Conference playoffs, and maybe for a Western final if they get that far.
To get a hint of the rest of this column: I think they will get that far.
