The Colorado Avalanche announced on Sunday night that they had acquired defenseman Jack Johnson, 36, in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Going back to Chicago would be 27-year old blueliner Andreas Englund.
In the hour or so since this trade was officially announced, there seems to be two camps: the Avs fans who are excited to see the return of a beloved former veteran player who was a member of the Cup team last season and those who are puzzled and maybe even unhappy at what was given up to once again get the services of Jack Johnson.
Consider me in the latter.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Jack Johson. I liked him when he played for the Avs and for the role he had in Colorado. He fit perfectly. But when he left, I thought that Andreas Englund stepped into that same role and did it better.
