Everybody on the 1998 Avalanche said it wouldn’t be a problem that 10 or so players would jet off to Nagano, Japan, for the Olympics. All the best Avs players from that team played for their respective countries, including Peter Forsberg for Sweden, Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy for Canada and a bunch of other guys.
It was a problem. It pretty much derailed their playoffs, which astute Avs fans will remember resulted in a first-round loss to Edmonton.
