When the Avalanche were down 1-0 after two periods, I wasn’t worried. Not with No. 92, Gabe Landeskog, the Avs’ knight in shining armor, in the lineup again.

A goal by Landeskog to to tie it early third, boom. A go-ahead goal by Nicolas Roy, boom. A 1,000th career goal by Alex Ovechkin to send it to overtime, bummer. But Brock Nelson, from a wizard-like shift by Martin Necas, and, boom, a big two points today in Washington.

Landeskog’s return from a, ahem, lower-body injury today was the extra shot of espresso the Avs needed after a first two periods in which it seemed like ambien was in their water bottles.

Landy missed seven games with that injury, and the Avs went 3-3-1. The Avs are now 38-4-7 with No. 92 in the lineup this season. Amazing.
