Dater: It's Not A Slight At Quebec Wearing Their Old Jerseys

All indications are that the Avs will wear their new retro Quebec Nordiques sweaters tonight against Boston. The Avs, for reasons I can’t fathom, continue to be very coy about the whole thing.

But, they wore blue Nordiques pants at the morning skate today, and the dressing room lockers had Nordiques logos next to player names (shoutout to Jesse Montano’s Twitter feed for that). If this is another tease, where the Avs tweet stuff with Nordiques pics in them and then not wear the jerseys? Well, with their bumbling marketing department, I won’t be shocked.

There have been some tweets and murmurs that it’s a sign of disrespect at the old Nordiques for the Avs to wear their jerseys again in this, the 30th anniversary of the team in Denver.

This isn’t the first time the Avs have worn Nordiques jerseys, though. The Avs wore them in their 2020-21 season, shortened by the pandemic. They were not exact replicas of the old Nords sweaters, as the red in crest and in the fleur de ly around the logo were Avs/burgundy red.

These new ones are blue Nords sweaters. I’ve seen them. I could have posted a picture of an actual Avs player in them, but out of respect for a source, I didn’t. I’m not a big expert on colors, but it’s possible the new sweaters could be termed more “Avs royal blue” than the lighter blue of the old Nords sweaters. They look the same to me, but if there is a technical difference in the color blue, I’m sure the Avs will make that clear.
