Dater: It'll Be A Sweep
Kings no match for Avs
I know, I know. You’re worried I just DaterJinxed the Avs by predicting a first-round sweep of the Los Angeles Kings, which starts tomorrow at Ball Arena.
Well, worry not. The DaterJinx will take this round off. It knows it has no chance of jinxing the Avs in this series. This will be a sweep. The Kings are one of the worst teams to have made the playoffs in recent NHL history.
This is a team that allowed 22 more goals than it scored (225-247) in the regular season. Their 225 goals scored was 12th in the Western Conference. The Avs scored 302 goals and allowed 203, bests in the West. The Kings’ leading scorer, Adrian Kempe, had 73 points. The next-highest scorer had 49. The Avs had three guys with 100 or more points.
I feel about this series the way Al Strachan felt about the 1996 Cup Finals between the Avs and Panthers. I asked the former longtime big-time Canadian reporter how he thought the series would go, and he scrunched his face and spit out a contemptible “Sweep.” And, he was right.
There’s just no way on God’s green earth that the LA Kings are going to beat the Avs in this series. Forget about four games, I am saying it won’t happen one time.
