Dater: Could The Bo Byram Contract Negotiations Get Difficult?

What should be his next contract number?

What is the dollar value, per year, on Bo Byram? That could be a very difficult question to answer this summer and maybe into the fall. Difficult for the parties most professionally interested in that question, at least.

To summarize: The 21-year-old Avs defenseman’s entry-level contract is up. He’s a restricted free agent. His cap hit last season was $894,167 (though he did earn $2.5 million in performance bonuses in 2022-23, some of which will count against the Avs’ overall cap hit for this next season).

This is the part of Byram’s career where he will start to make some serious money. Question is: how serious? What should be his next salary? What’s fair market value?

I’m going to say that Byram’s next salary should start with a 5, as in $5 million. Depending on the term of his next contract, that number could go up even more.
