Jared Bednar, as we found out yet again today, doesn’t play favorites. While he seemed like the peoples’ choice to grab a roster spot as a 39-year-old on a tryout contract with the Avalanche, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare was cut loose by the team today.
There are 29 players on the official Avs camp roster right now, but three of them (Gabe Landeskog, Artturi Lehkonen and Valeri Nichushkin) aren’t expected to be in the lineup on opening night.
That means there are three more cuts to be made to get down to the 23-man active roster, and it’s going to be interesting to see who survives among the rookies/prospects.
The official Avalanche website continues to have errors on it. Max Curran was still listed tonight as being on the roster, but…he was reassigned to his junior club two weeks ago.
For me, these are the bubble guys still around, and three of them will have to go by opening night: Ivan Ivan, Parker Kelly, Joel Kiviranta, Ondrej Pavel, Cal Ritchie, T.J. Tynan, Chris Wagner and D-men Calvin de Haan, Sam Malinski and Oliver Kylington.
If I was a betting man, I would bet these will be the survivors of the final cuts:
