Avs Sweep SoCal as Stretch Run Heats Up
MacKinnon hits 100 points and PK17 shines in the OC.
“We’ve been on the run
Driving (winning) in the sun
Looking out for number one (overall in the standings)
California here we come (won)
Right back where we (the season) started from (the first game of the season in LA)”
So I took some liberties with the opening lyrics of Phantom Planet’s iconic early-2000s pop hit “California” to make it work in context with the Colorado Avalanche’s sweep of the Kings and Ducks on back-to-back nights. I’m fine with it.
There is a lot to unpack after a pair of wins in SoCal that I don’t know where to start. Another 100-point season for Nathan MacKinnon. The first team to 90 points or 40 wins? Parker Kelly’s continued stellar play? Gabe Landeskog’s scoring? Cale Makar’s scoring? Devon Toews coming up clutch? How about a pair of solid goaltending performances?
See! It’s not so easy!
And all this happening with the uncertainty of the impending trade deadline looming over everything? That’s tough.
