The Colorado Avalanche finally know who their first playoff opponent will be after clinching a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Nov. 1… at least it felt like that.

After all the Pacific Division shenanigans finally shook out on the final night of the regular season, it was the Los Angeles Kings who come to Denver for a first-round matchup with the top-seeded Avalanche.

Colorado earned the Presidents’ Trophy as the best team in the league, amassing a franchise-record 121 points this season, eight more than Carolina, the Eastern Conference’s top squad. At 55-16-11, the Avs finished just one win shy of matching the 2021-22 team’s single-season standard, while they enter the playoffs on a heater with wins in five of their last six, and earning points in each.
