Avs Overcome Caps and Crew to Earn 5-2 Win
Colorado picks up 20th home win of the season.

Our long national nightmare is over!
The Colorado Avalanche finally won a home game… after losing their first regulation game at Ball Arena all season on Friday night.
Bouncing back from a 7-3 drubbing at the hands of the lowly Nashville Predators, the Avs defeated two opponents on Monday afternoon: the Washington Capitals, 5-2, and the striped crew working the matinee.
In a weekend filled with sports fans complaining about what constitutes a catch in the NFL playoffs in Denver and Chicago, the NHL referees in the Mile High City said, “Hold my beer.”
Sure, the story should be about Colorado dominating play with a 44-24 edge in shots on goal, continuing their third-period dominance, or Nathan MacKinnon scoring twice and recording his 1,100th career point.
But no. Instead, it’s about the officiating.
