There’s a lot to unpack with this one.
What a game! In reality, we should be saying, “what the hell was that?”
It’s rare to win a game when losing in the third period as most teams go into a defensive shutdown mode to try and eliminate chances against in an effort to secure the win. It’s even rarer when the third-period lead is two goals.
It should be even more unlikely that a team trailing by two goals after just allowing four against the previous period storm back with three in the final frame to win in regulation. And to do it all with your backup netminder inserted for the third, too.
But that’s what happened for the Colorado Avalanche Monday night in a 6-5 victory over visiting Calgary.
