The Colorado Avalanche opened the 2025–26 campaign with a convincing 4–1 win Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

For all the pregame hype and glitz of the Kings’ home opener — complete with the unveiling of their super-secret alternate jerseys — the first period lacked the ‘showtime’ LA teams are known for. But once the puck dropped in the second, the Avs found their rhythm and reminded everyone why expectations are a mile high this year.

I was already feeling optimistic heading into the opener as seen in yesterday’s preview piece, and little has changed after watching that effort. This is a good team… a really good team. And this season has the potential to be something special.

So, let’s take a look back at last night and what we learned:
