Avs Beat Best Team in History of Sports, 6-3
Colorado doubles up New York Rangers with big third period.
There’s something special about beating the New York Rangers.
I enjoy it because I know beating them truly validates the winning team. Imagine going into a game as ‘underdogs’ against the biggest juggernaut in sports… a team with a storied past and unparalleled tradition… and coming out victorious! A team with so many championships that there must be barely any space left in the rafters of that incredibly modern and not-at-all overhyped arena they play in. A team with countless superstars who, of course, spent the primes of their careers in the hockey hotbed that is Manhattan. And all of it in front of the best, most level-headed fans in sports… people who humbly cheer without a shred of overzealous unwarranted boasting.
That’s the New York Rangers: one Stanley Cup in eight and a half decades, supported by a fanbase who treats that one title like it’s the Rosetta Stone of championships, ahead of all others.
An early 1-0 hole on Thursday night must have had the Avalanche thinking about all that history they were up against as the NHL’s premier team used an early power play to set Colorado on its heels.
Or not.
