Avalanche Resurgence Was Entirely Predictable
Based on history, we never should have been as worried about Avs as we might have been
I’ve related this anecdote before, but it bears repeating now that Christmas has passed and the Avalanche have now won six in a row.
I still can never forget when I was trying to ask Claude Lemieux some “should we be worried about the Avalanche?” type questions during the 1996-97 season, the follow-up year from the team winning the Stanley Cup in ‘96.
Lemieux took a look at me with what seemed like a dose of pity, shook his head and said something like “Let me tell you something kid: the best teams in the league don’t really care or start really playing until after Christmas.”
