Avalanche Complete Remarkable Comeback to Win in OT

There are a few more words that were yelled in my house in the wake of the winner, too. All those four-letter words are justified when you’re down 4-0 and getting run out of your own building only to come back and win 5-4 in overtime. That’s what the Colorado Avalanche did Sunday in a nationally televised game against the Pittsburgh Penguins for the whole hockey world to see.
Again… HOLY $H*T.
There hasn’t been a game this season where the Avalanche looked worse than they did in the first period of Sunday’s matinee. It’s understandable for a team like Colorado to start slow for a noon puck drop. The gameday schedule is off. The routine is altered. The timing in your body clock is all thrown off. But man, oh man, did the home team suck in the opening 20 minutes.
It seemed like that suckage would continue for the whole game as Pittsburgh built its lead to 4-0 with a little over four minutes left in the second period. That’s the game, right? You don’t just erase four-goal deficits in the NHL.
The Avalanche do.
