Analysis of Alex Newhook Trade To Montreal: Avs Gave Up On Him Too Soon
Yeah, Avs needed to restock draft picks, but this is the wrong deal
Wow. Alex Newhook’s days with the Avalanche are over.
In something of a shocker, the Avs traded Newhook to the Montreal Canadiens today for Montreal’s first- and second-round draft picks in this week’s NHL Draft, along with prospect defenseman Gianni Fairbrother.
The picks acquired are the 31st overall and the 37th overall. So, the Avs are trading a guy who went 16th overall in the 2019 draft for two later picks, plus the unproven Fairbrother, 22, a third-round pick of Montreal’s in 2019 who didn’t play at all last season because of a knee injury.
I don’t love the deal at all, and here’s why:
