You thought it was going to be easy?

Did you really believe the knuckleheads who picked the Avalanche to win this series in five games were going to be right? Did you really believe that the Stars wouldn’t dig deep and find something to turn around their end-of-year struggles to be a better team in the postseason?

This is Colorado-Dallas. A matchup now in its seventh iteration, destined for its fourth Game 7.

When the Avalanche finally broke through in 2022 to win the franchise’s third Stanley Cup, there was a sense that the struggles of the previous three postseasons were behind them. A bygone era of missed chances and painful exits replaced by a team that rolled to a 16–4 playoff record, never trailing in a series, with two sweeps along the way.

How naive to believe that narrative. 

Adversity builds character. It makes the wins sweeter, the journey more memorable.
