The text to me this morning was from Scotty Bowman, and the subject was Cale Makar.
“Makar in a league of his own. Skating, stickhandling, wrist shot. All three components of a superstar,” Bowman’s text read.
I then asked him how Makar stacks up against the legendary Bobby Orr. Bowman coached against Orr - he was standing on the bench as coach of the St. Louis Blues when Orr scored his Stanley Cup-clinching “flying” goal in 1970 made famous by this photo - and a phone conversation ensued.
